We welcome handlers of all ages and abilities to join Long-reiningUK. At our events, we like to promote a friendly atmosphere at our events, and if you have any questions on the day, we are happy to help.

If you don't want to compete but would like to help as a volunteer, you are very welcome. See Volunteering.

Membership runs for 12 months and starts from the first day of the month you joined. We offer the following memberships:

  • Adult Member: Aged 18 years and over.

  • Junior Member: Aged 17 years and under. The age of the junior member is taken as the age of the person at the start of the calendar year. An adult aged 18 years and over must be present at all times when the junior member is competing and during training sessions.

Members must have appropriate third-party liability insurance for participating in training sessions and long-reining competitions. Proof of insurance can be provided with membership application, to save on producing evidence of insurance for every competition. Insurance can be in the form of membership of the British Horse Society, membership of other equestrian disciplines or personal insurance.

Members are provided with a Membership number which is used to ensure their entitlement to discounted fees and priority at events, particularly training sessions.

We run an annual Championship league for our members for each discipline and a few extra awards:

  • Young Handler
  • Veteran Handler
  • Veteran Horse/Pony
  • Mountain & Moorland
  • Traditional Cob
  • Thoroughbred
  • Heavy Horse
  • Donkey
  • Small Pony (11hh and under)
  • Most Improved Combinations
